Dieter Welsink has been a directly elected member of the district council with a constituency in Neuss since 2004. From 2009 to 2022, he led the CDU district parliamentary group as chairman.
The former canoeing world champion gained his first local political experience on the board of Wassersportclub Bayer Dormagen e.V. before being elected to the board of the sports association in the Rhine district of Neuss in 1996. He led the district sports association as its chairman from 2002 to 2009.
Dieter W. Welsink was involved in national politics for many years in the German Association for Physiotherapy ZVK e.V. Until 2001, he was a member of the Federal Executive Board, most recently as Federal Chairman.
In 2009, the district council of the Rhine district of Neuss elected him President of the Board of Trustees of the Sparkassenstiftung Sport des Rhein-Kreises Neuss. Here he is committed to the further development of talent promotion for young athletes with national and international careers in close cooperation with the Rhineland Olympic Training Centre, the NRW Sports Foundation and the regional sports clubs. Since 2008, he has been a member of the sports and competitive sports discussion group of the federal CDU in Berlin and works on the CDU's sports policy programme.
In addition to the area of sport and sports promotion, health policy is an important part of his local political work. As chairman (since 2007) of the CDU's health policy working group in the Rhine district of Neuss, it is important to him to expand the efficiency of regional healthcare and to build networks for greater transparency with all healthcare providers, patients and those affected. His involvement in the health conference of the Rhine district of Neuss provides him with important impetus. In 2010, Dieter W. Welsink was co-opted into the general assembly of the IHK-Niederrhein.
Politically, it is important to him to further develop the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as an educational and business location within the scope of the economic possibilities, so that the people who need our support feel comfortable in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as well as high achievers who are looking for an attractive living and working environment.

Person
After graduating from Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium, he studied rehabilitation and disabled sports at the German Sport University in Cologne and trained as a physiotherapist at the university hospitals in Düsseldorf.
From 1986, he built up a group of companies in the healthcare sector based in Neuss, which he now heads as managing partner.
