On 11 March 2026, the City of Kaarst's Culture Committee met for its first meeting of the 11th council term. It was a perfect start: a full house and the highly motivated participation of the committee members clearly showed how important cultural life is for us in Kaarst.
A programme that connects generations
We are looking far ahead. While the Cultural programme 2026 is already in the starting blocks, we on the committee have already set the course for 2027. We are particularly focussed on the Cabaret and the Children's theatre. We are committed to ensuring that Kaarst remains a stage for high-calibre cabaret and at the same time offers our youngest citizens first-class cultural experiences.
Responsibility for our history
In Kaarst, culture also means a living culture of remembrance. A central point of the meeting was the Reappraisal of the city's history. With projects such as the Place of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism and the installation of a Memorial stele at the Kaarst cemetery we fulfil our historical responsibility. It is important to us that history remains visible and tangible in our city.
Partnership with the art scene
A particular highlight was the presentation of Mrs Maria Höveler, the new spokesperson for the Kaarst artists. We are looking forward to the dialogue and the impulses from the local art scene. The preparations for the Autumn exhibition 2026 run: The judging process has been launched to offer regional talents a forum again this year.
Securing culture - despite tight budgets
The budgetary situation is undoubtedly challenging. The revision of the fee schedule in the cultural sector was therefore a necessary point of consultation. Our goal as the CDU is clear: we want to maintain cultural life in Kaarst even in financially difficult times. Lively and attractive shape the future. For us, this also includes the reliable support of our public libraries by granting the necessary subsidies.
Conclusion: The committee has shown that politics and administration are working hand in hand to strengthen Kaarst as a cultural centre. We will stay tuned!
