Bundestag election in Kaarst: CDU gains over 5%

Kaarst, 24 February 2025 - With yesterday's federal election, voters not only gave the CDU the mandate to govern Germany, but also sent a clear signal in Kaarst: With over 37%, the CDU is by far the strongest party in Kaarst. The CDU Kaarst wants to build on this basis for the local elections in the autumn.

The CDU Kaarst is delighted after the Bundestag election: the party was able to gain votes in all Kaarst constituencies compared to the last Bundestag election in 2021. With 37.9% of the vote, the CDU in Kaarst recorded even greater approval from the population compared to the nationwide result (over 28%) and the result for NRW (around 30%). "The CDU did very well in the federal election. A few percentage points more for the nationwide result would have been desirable, but the result makes it possible to quickly form a two-party coalition and a government capable of taking action, which we urgently need. The change in policy has been successful and we in Kaarst are particularly pleased with the good result with an increase of over 5% and the above-average result of Ansgar Neveling, who can thus represent the interests of the city in the federal government. This is our basis for the Kaarst local elections in the autumn," says Christian Horn-Heinemann, CDU mayoral candidate for Kaarst.

Key points of the CDU election programme for Kaarst

Due to the premature end of the traffic light government, the CDU had drawn up 10 key points in its election programme that address the main problems facing Germany. In Kaarst, they also want to take action with concrete proposals for solutions, as some of the key points have a particularly large impact on local politics and the lives of the citizens of Kaarst.

Economic growth through company relocations

Another key point of the election programme, which is particularly relevant in Kaarst, is economic growth and the associated job security. The CDU is focussing on economic growth by lowering corporate taxes and creating stable, predictable framework conditions to make investment in Kaarst attractive again. Business tax revenue is essential for a town that is fighting against budget uncertainty. For this reason, the Kaarst CDU is in favour of making targeted use of brownfield sites for company relocations. Unfortunately, the city of Kaarst has already seen companies that were still interested three years ago postpone their investments or even relocate abroad due to the recession. The CDU wants to counteract this trend by advocating business-friendly policies at all political levels.

Urgent need for action on migration

This includes a change in migration policy and a stop to illegal migration. The city of Kaarst is faced with a drastic increase in the number of asylum seekers assigned to it: 247 asylum seekers were assigned in 2024, reaching a new high. A large number of war refugees from Ukraine were also accepted in 2022. Politics and administration reacted to this and created new capacities, including in the former comprehensive school in Büttgen and on Wattmannstraße in Vorst. These measures not only serve to provide accommodation, but also follow the Christian principle of granting protection to persecuted people. Nevertheless, around 40 asylum seekers are currently housed in the gymnasium on Halestraße. In view of the continuous monthly influx of around 20 more asylum seekers, it is foreseeable that the new capacity will soon be fully utilised. As additional funding is not a solution to the space problem, the reduction of illegal migration is urgently needed in order to preserve Kaarst's ability to act.

More room for manoeuvre for regional agriculture

The protection of agriculture and the reduction of EU over-regulation also affect Kaarst and its citizens. This is because agriculture plays a central role for Kaarst: without the embedding of the districts in a cultural landscape characterised by agriculture, the townscape and quality of life would suffer considerably. Our agriculture is a guarantee for a secure and regional food supply. The CDU is therefore in favour of an end to over-regulation by the EU in order to give farmers more freedom again.

The CDU Kaarst sees the good election result as an encouragement to continue pursuing its course and to keep the interests of Kaarst's citizens in focus in order to set the course for a positive future in Kaarst with concrete measures.

Christian Horn-Heinemann thanks the voters of Kaarst for their trust - both nationally and for Kaarst. The mayoral candidate of the Kaarst CDU sees the result of the Bundestag election as a good basis for the local elections in September.
