Hendrik Wüst's reception at the Neuss armoury: clear messages for the future of Germany
On 23 January 2025, Minister President Hendrik Wüst hosted a reception at the Zeughaus Neuss. The event focussed on Germany's key challenges and the clear positioning of the CDU under the leadership of Friedrich Merz.
Getting to grips and strengthening democracy
"We need to tackle fundamental issues and also strengthen our democracy," emphasised Hendrik Wüst in his speech. "People can rightly expect us to tackle things and work for our country."
Europe's strength and Germany's responsibility
A key topic of the evening was Germany's role in Europe. Wüst made it clear: "The CDU with Friedrich Merz will tackle the right things. Our response to the global changes? Tackle and, above all, strengthen Europe. Germany has been absent for the last three years. We must speak with one voice again, act in a goal-orientated manner and be willing to compromise."
Flight and migration: clear rules and responsibility
Wüst spoke out in favour of a clear line on migration policy: "The CDU is in favour of helping people in need. But it is equally clear that people without the right to stay should not be allowed to stay or enter the country." He warned of the consequences if the current government does not act: "If politicians don't take action here, it could happen that others who think very differently decide on this in future! A change of policy to a traffic light coalition is urgently needed, otherwise our people will be 'blown apart'."
Education as the key to the future
Another focus was on education policy, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia. Wüst emphasised: "Prioritisation is necessary - in NRW for education and children. Advancement through education must be our goal."
The reception at the Zeughaus Neuss illustrated the CDU's determination to actively tackle Germany's current challenges and to shape future-oriented policies with clear objectives.
