Massive vandalism hits the green heart of the city - CDU examines security measures
The CDU Kaarst is deeply shocked by the wilful destruction in the city park on Sunday night. Unknown perpetrators cut down and severely damaged several decades-old trees, permanently changing the familiar cityscape.
Group Chairman Ingo Kotzian was stunned by the incident: „I can't imagine what is going on in the minds of the perpetrators. This madness is almost incomprehensible.“ He emphasised that the perpetrators used chainsaws, which represents a new dimension of violence against urban nature. Party chairman Dennis Oscheja emphasises the long-term nature of the damage: „What has been destroyed here has grown over generations. Damage like this leaves a gap for many years to come.“
The CDU is now calling on the investigating authorities to investigate this „brutal intrusion into the soul of the city“ at full speed. As a political consequence, the CDU parliamentary group will examine whether, despite the difficult budgetary situation, the reintroduction of a night security service in the city park is necessary to protect citizens and nature from further encroachments.
